Athlete of the Month
Cody Giddings is an early starter in more than one way. Not only did he start playing soccer at the young age of four, but he also began playing for the boys’ varsity soccer team at Granite Bay High School as a freshman. He is only the third player ever to do so.
This talented young man first began playing soccer because of “the beauty of (the game),”said Giddings. “Nothing happens the same way twice.”
Now as a junior, he plays center forward. “I get the ball and (can) be creative to make big plays” Giddings said.
But he has come a long way since then, and has high hopes for both himself and his team. This year, he believes that GBHS boys’ varsity soccer is on track for nothing but “a section title,” Giddings said, “we have one of the best teams we’ve ever had.”
As for himself, Giddings has set a high bar. “I’m planning on going to Stanford to play soccer, and after that I would love to play professional, maybe somewhere in Europe” he said. “That’s my dream.”
Clearly Giddings has pushed himself to succeed in his sport from very early on, and will likely continue to push himself to the limit as best he can to achieve the lofty goals he has set for himself.
