Artist of the month: Connor Morgan

Painting is one of Morgan’s passions, he has continued it throughout high school.
Some people take fourth period off during their senior year because they want a break.
For Granite Bay High School senior Connor Morgan, it’s often just a chance to get work done on his paintings.
Although he started out just drawing and doodling, in high school he began to try different types of art, including painting.
“My first painting was in a student show at Barton gallery when I was back in Art 3,” Morgan said. “I just recently had a show over at quarry ponds.”
Morgan is influenced by GBHS art teacher Myron Stephens as well as several other artists.
“One of my favorite artists is Jonathan Weiner,” Morgan said. “I look up to him a lot and his work influences my paintings.”
When asked to describe his style, Morgan struggled to find the right words. Most of his works focus on a specific figure (a person, an animal, etc.) with a more realistic backdrop.
“I paint a lot of figures and weird compositions so… whatever you’d consider that,” Morgan said.
Regardless of how they’re categorized, however, each painting somewhat speaks for itself.
Morgan feels that his most recent work is one of his best yet.
His latest series is entitled “Godspeed.”
“I find most of my inspiration from my faith and what I experience on a daily basis,” Morgan said. “I’m trying to incorporate the two into my series.”
As his senior year comes to a close, Morgan is planning for the future.
He is planning to continue pursuing art by taking art courses in college.
For Morgan and his art, classes are not about simply fulfilling credits, but improving his own skill.
He intends to pursue a career in art sometime in the future.
